O prémio foi atribuído durante o 30º aniversário da Virtuoso Travel Week, em Las Vegas, onde estiveram presentes cerca de 1700 membros do mercado de viagens de luxo, representando hotéis, agências de viagem e companhias aéreas de todo o mundo.
Foram atribuídos prémios de várias categorias, como o melhor cruzeiro ou o parceiro mais inovador na categoria lifestyle. Portugal, representado pela National Tourism Office, foi galardoado com o título de Hottest Destination no ano em que celebrou o record de mais visitas de turistas internacionais.
Para além deste prémio, o Six Senses Douro Resort ganhou o prémio Best of the Best Sustainable Tourism Leadership, enquanto o Tours For You ganhou o Best Virtuoso Voyages Experience pelo sou tour de Lisboa.

The award was given last night during the 30th Annual Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas, to an audience of 1,700 members of the luxury travel industry, representing travel agents, hotels, airlines and cruise lines from all over the world.
Virtuoso bestowed some 20 awards from best river cruise line, to the best-curated travel partner or the most innovative lifestyle partner. Portugal, represented by the National Tourism Office, took the hottest destination title having just celebrated a record-breaking year for international visitors travelling to the country. Also last night, the Six Senses Douro resort was named Best of the Best 2018 for Sustainable Tourism Leadership, and Tours For You was nominated for Best Virtuoso Voyages Experience 2018 for their Lisbon tour.
Portugal was named World’s Leading Destination in 2017 last year by the World Travel Awards, which have already awarded the country this year with prizes for Best European Destination, Best Island (Madeira), the Best City Destination (Lisbon), and the Best Tourism Bureau in Europe.
